This 30-credit master's degree prepares candidates for leadership and management positions in a variety of educational settings. The program emphasizes an understanding of the complexities of change in schools, communities, and organizations. Participants are expected to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to create and maintain learning environments that value diversity, continual knowledge acquisition, instructional leadership, innovative and ethical decision making, reflective practice, and successful achievement of all school-aged youth.

The internship is integral to the MEd and provides an opportunity to synthesize and apply the knowledge and practice the skills identified in the Educational Leadership Constituency Consortium Standards through substantial, sustained work in educational settings.

Concentration in Independent School Leadership (non-licensure) (ISL)

This concentration is a non-licensure path leading to the Leadership and Human Development MEd degree with a focus on the unique leadership and instructional needs of directors, heads of schools, and other professionals responsible for the growth and management of independent and private schools. Like other candidates in the program, students will develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to create and maintain learning environments that value diversity, instructional leadership, innovative and ethical decision-making, reflective practice, and the successful achievement of all students, with an emphasis on the independent school context.

 Concentration in International School Leadership Research (ISLR)

The 30 credit International School Leadership Research Concentration option is a non-licensure path to the Leadership and Human Development MEd with a focus on the unique leadership and instructional needs of directors, heads of schools, and other professionals responsible for the growth and management of international schools, including IB schools. Students will develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to create and maintain learning environments that value diversity, instructional leadership, innovative and ethical decision-making, reflective practice, and the successful achievement of all students, with an emphasis on the international school context and the leadership requirements of International Baccalaureate schools and communities. This MEd concentration meets the International Baccalaureate Organization’s standards for both the International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate in Leadership Practice and the International Baccalaureate Educator Certificate in Leadership Research.
