The Global Education Office offers students the opportunity to develop critical and creative skills and challenge their assumptions about themselves and other cultures in an educational environment by offering global educational programs of varying lengths, academic emphases, and locations. Through both travel and virtual study abroad opportunities, students discover new cultures, sharpen language skills, and build cross-cultural skills while earning credit. These global experiences include: virtual programs; faculty-led, short-term courses and intensive language programs; semester and year-long George Mason-sponsored programs; and global internship programs. Most programs are open to George Mason undergraduate and graduate students and short-term programs are also open to faculty, staff, and the general public.
The Global Education Office also offers a wealth of resources to help students create a personalized international educational experience, including general advising sessions about study abroad and internship options; one-on-one student advising; transfer of approved international program credits; a resource library of travel books; international and diplomatic community programming, and advising to international students from partner schools.

OIPS staff serve as institutional representatives responsible for monitoring nonimmigrant status, maintaining required government records, issuing and processing immigration documentation, and providing accurate regulatory guidance to ensure the university and its international population remain in full compliance with federal requirements. OIPS advisors are available for weekly virtual advising and drop-in hours, and the office is open during the work week to receive visitors. OIPS conducts comprehensive orientation programs for new international students and offers social, cultural, and educational programming throughout the fall and spring semesters. Staff and student volunteers emphasize global issues and themes for all members of the George Mason community through programs and outreach designed to connect individuals from different cultures for meaningful dialogue and cultural learning.
