The Global Education Office offers students the opportunity to develop critical and creative skills and challenge their assumptions about themselves and other cultures in an educational environment by offering global educational programs of varying lengths, academic emphases, and locations. Through both travel and virtual study abroad opportunities, students discover new cultures, sharpen language skills, and build cross-cultural skills while earning credit. These global experiences include: virtual programs; faculty-led, short-term courses and intensive language programs; semester and year-long Mason-sponsored programs; and global internship programs. Most programs are open to Mason undergraduate and graduate students and short-term programs are also open to faculty, staff, and the general public.

The Global Education Office also offers a wealth of resources to help students create a personalized international educational  experience, including general advising sessions about study abroad and internship options; one-on-one student advising; transfer of approved international program credits; a resource library of travel books; international and diplomatic community programming, and advising to international students from partner schools.

The Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) provides advising and compliance-related services to international students, scholars, and faculty studying, working, or participating in collaborative research at the university.  OIPS has a mission to serve the university community with co-curricular programming and events to inspire cross-cultural understanding and to enrich the George Mason University experience by emphasizing global issues and themes.  Staff members provide regulatory information related to non-immigrant status and have been designated by the university to issue and sign immigration documents and paperwork on behalf of the institution. OIPS advisors are available for weekly virtual advising and walk-in hours, and the office is open during the work week to receive visitors.  Advisors and staff provide practical assistance to students and scholars as they adjust to U.S. culture and apply for eligible benefits related to their visa status and employment.  OIPS conducts many comprehensive orientation programs for new international students and offers social, cultural, and educational programming throughout the fall and spring semesters. Most notably, the staff and student volunteers work to internationalize campus life for all members of the Mason community through programs and outreach designed to connect people from different global cultures with one another, and to domestic student populations, for meaningful dialogue and cultural learning.
